There is a natural beauty and elegance to wood. No wonder so many Kingstonians take those natural qualities and turn our wood into treasure that have practical value and intrinsic worth.
Gord Sullivan
Gord is enjoying life; with more than fifty years of marriage, two great kids and for grandchildren. Gord spent forty years in the fastener business before retiring in 2008. He has a small woodshop where he crafts beautiful and intricate pieces. He works in hard and soft woods; oak, poplar, maple and pine. His work is delicate and precise. A set of coasters become a thing of beauty. We have several pieces in the store from jewelry boxes to key holders. Our website does not do them justice.

Woodworking was always an interest and the Live Edge of wood has always be a fancination. Live Edge adds texture and a natural look that grain alone cannot capture.

DOG LAKE WOODWORKS
John Shaw and his partner Wendy Libbey live on beautiful Dog Lake north of Kingston Ontario. John loves to make and sell unique wooden items in their workshop overlooking the lake. John is driven by his obsession of wood, to transform trees that have been taken down either by Mother Nature or for other reasons and transform them into beautiful wooden treasures for others to enjoy. Some of the wood comes from their own property, neighbours’ firewood piles, or locally supplied lumber mills.
John's introduction to woodworking began in his father’s workshop. It was small but they made many works of art over the years, especially at Christmas time. John learned much from his father and over the years has continued to teach himself the craft of woodworking.
John’s work includes turning bowls, salt & peppermills, coffee grinders, candleholders, wine stoppers and custom stair systems (newel posts, finials and balusters). Woodworking items include small toy chests, a variety of boards (chess/checkers, charcuterie, end-grain cutting boards), coat racks and beer caddies.
John thoroughly enjoys the entire process from harvesting fallen trees in the woods to eventually turning them into wonderful pieces of art for others to enjoy.
